The film presents the key features of bamboo value chain in the two provinces at the early phrase of “Inclusive and sustainable clam and bamboo value chains development in Vietnam.” (SCBV) Eu & Oxfam funded project. BWG is the leading company in this value chain.

EU & Oxfam develop sustainable bamboo value chain in Thanh Hoa by supporting BWG and farmers in Quan Hoa, Thanh Hoa province to get the FSC certificates for their bamboo plantation areas.

While bamboo is associated with panda food in the Global North, many developing countries regard it as little more than ‘poor man’s timber’— a cheap substitute for timber products.

Some EUR4.3 million (US$5 million) will be funded by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for International Cooperation and Development (EuropeAid) for the project “Inclusive and sustainable clam and bamboo value chains development in Vietnam.”

Currently, about 1.5 million small-scale producers in Vietnam heavily depend on clam and bamboo production and processing for their livelihood. However, they face numerous disadvantages and challenges compared other parts of the value chain. They have low income and many still live in poverty.

Producing bamboo road mats for exporting, looks very strange, but that happening as bamboo is presenting in the roads. Bamboo road access mats or bamboo rig mats bring about not only economic benefit but also benefit to the environment too.
